My husband and I just bought a house in Ohio sight unseen. We weren't able to travel from Texas to see it, but we had a very good realtor so we were comfortable with her advice.

The problem is there are 3 steps leading from the kitchen out to the breezeway and garage. That would be workable except on the other side of the "landing" outside the kitchen are the stairs to the basement. We'll be putting a lift chair on one wall, so there's not really a way to attach a door, and my husband is afraid I'll get off balance and fall down the basement stairs.

We know we're most likely going to have to make a new exit from the back of the living room next to a fireplace to go out into the breezeway but we're stumped on what kind of professional to contact.

The first photo is a rough sketch of the floor plan which shows the exit out of the kitchen into the breezeway.

This photo shows the fireplace and we'd make an exit to the left
of it. The second photo is a sketch of the house. The breezeway runs
along the wall and goes from the front of the house to the back. I don't
have photos of the breezeway or dimensions yet because of stuff being
crammed into it while floors were being refinished.

Any suggestions? I don't know if we need a GC, architect, or designer to
even start this. Also, they'll need to be versed in design for mobility
impaired. This house is in Youngstown, Ohio.
