we are about to tackle our staircase and have some of the same questions. while I can't speak to BM colors, I would think sheen should match sheen. do you really need a runner? what is it going to look like? solid or patterned? we are also about to repaint a very old wooden floor in one of our bedrooms. we use exterior porch paint for durability, and stairs definitely need to be durable.

kimmj - so glad you posted this great picture! first, love love the wallpaper! we have a very vivid blue and yellow wallpaper going up the stairs under the chair railing, and then the wall is yellow. been debating whether b/w on stairs would be too much. thanks so much for sharing.
