i need information about Java Plum trees/fruit

As a child, I grew up in sub-Sahara Africa. I used to love to eat the java plum, or as it is called in Swahili, Zambarao, and we would spend hours in the trees. I am seeking information about the availability of the trees, do they grow in places like Florida (where I live) and the availability of the fruit should I not be able to plant my own tree. I have also heard that they may be on an invasive no grow list. is this true? Please let me know what you know. the scientific name is Syzygium cumini, also known as the Malabar plum or the Portuguese plum. Any horticulturists out there who can help me with this?
