The price of the shower door is crazy. Rethink the tub.

Yikes, yes at this point I would consider replacing the tub so that you can get your vision, tubs are not pricey and you can try to sell yours, or donate (like to habitat for humanity's re-store) and take the tax deduction.

Agree that the tub is the cheaper sacrifice -- however, a rounded side actually makes the shower space feel larger, so it was probably meant to be a helpful choice. Worth at least considering whether a shower curtain that you push out of the way would really destroy your ability to enjoy the tilework, and whether you are willing to sacrifice a few inches of elbow room every day to your vision.

I agree why is the contractor choosing any of this stuff did he not know you wanted a shower screen this is a problem that happens when there is no complete plan in place.I would get a new tub and get what you want

Has anyone" investigated" how this dilemma stuff even HAPPENS? It is just heartbreaking that people are scared to death $$$ to get design help upfront, it is too expensive!!. Unwittingly and with the trust of a child, they go like hogs to a slaughter embarking on a renovation they may do once in a lifetime.........and end up HERE. Pros don't mean to get cranky, but it makes us all a bit nuts. Rip the tub out. Because when someone tries to jury rig a 500.00 dollar Home Depot door and it doesn't work and the door is ruined, and HD will not accept the return the poor soul is out yet another 500 bucks. Sorry. but I want to rip out my hair : )

Cabinet and countertop dealers such as our company, do not charge for design. Of course we are selling the products. We are very contractor and consumer friendly. Planning for any Kitchen or Bathroom home improvement project is essential for a great job with few problems. Sometimes unplanned jobs go well, sometimes they don't.

Thanks for all of the feedback. The contractor felt he was getting us a bath that had more elbow room which I get but isn't aligned with my vision - and I shared with him my extreme displeasure for selecting something I didn't care for. He had suggested shortening the Delta hardware by cutting it but that is problematic as the glass cannot be cut down to fit. Regardless, I am hoping his glass guy can solve for a hinged glass "screen" that will provide protection from water leaking out - as I have seen many times in European hotel rooms (seems pretty standard there). We'll see how they solve for this...
