Update on outdoor to indoor adjustment for cat

Well, weeks are passing and my big boy is gradually adjusting to not being allowed out any more... After 12 years of freedom, the second "kidnapping" in 2 years has necessitated this. Most of the issues revolve around what the Irish call " doing his bathroom" and we are slowly getting this sorted. A lot of loud grumbling from a cat who is not usually vocal, the silent miaou being his more usual tactic. The upstairs litter tray he uses ( he is a total wuss when the newish cats are concerned so will not use a tray etc downstairs) is on the base tray from the dog crate and works great for misses. Using natural materials; grass, sand, mulch and that helps. ( Tried the grass in the downstairs tray but Jacob has decided to sleep in it. Boycat gets rather distressed at times but responds to extra handling and now nests alongside my pillows. Comes hard after so many years of freedom but we are getting there. And his coat is starting to soften ( long haired and often wet and mucky) A lot of reassurance and love...

Good news! I'm glad he is settling in. Both of you will be happier once he has completely given in. I know you will sleep better knowing he is safe.

"The prisoner" is restless today, pacing and calling... Makes me feel a cruel heel! Asleep now.. This situation has come about because I adopted Sum Sum. In every other rental house, I have been able to leave a cat accessible window so they can get in and out. The house before this, they made use of a top window, bouncing off a gatepost below and running up the wall... Even if I closed the window, they would sit on the ledge and howl! Here, I quickly found I cannot leave a downstairs window open as first there was the fiercest and most anti social true feral around who would come in and spray .. a runty little ginger with a scowling face and no manners..

Tried a cat flap, but he soon got the hang of that and then collie destroyed two...( Landlord does not yet know re the hole in the back door,,)

When Sum Sum arrived, there were of course territorial issues. There was one day I heard a terrible fracas and when I looked out, he and feral were locked in combat, legs tangled, screaming blue murder in Irish.. after some minutes they took off across the fields, stopping every few minutes to re-engage and scream.. went on for over 1/4 hour.

Sum Sum took over and re finally rehomed the runt.. my poor car stank for weeks..and Sum Sum is fiercely territorial and so would chase my two whenever he saw them.

And if he got in, stink bombs.

They hated this but thankfully Sum Sum does not do trees and would sit at the bottom waiting.. So getting them in was a huge issue and they probably went awol accordingly then got shut in .... so here we all are! House arrest!

Maybe the next house will be easier... Used to love watching Boycat race out and down the lane...., He always was a houdini.. WIth a move ahead, the thought of him being missing on the day...
