We are finally honing in on ordering new doors for a small 1950's row house that we are making fresh and modern. The current doors are plain without any panels and the only real 'period' details retained in the house are the original 1950's black and white bathroom tiles. We are thinking about either two panel or single panel shaker doors to add a bit of character. Anything is really an improvement but would one be recommended over the other if we are going for more modern (as opposed to traditional) finishes? i.e. flat front kitchen cabinet doors, brushed metal fixtures etc. We have been unable to decide because we have no idea what would 'go' best.
