Germinating Schefflera Arbicola
Hey all,
Just wondering, does it actually take 39 days for Dwarf Umbrella Tree seeds to germinate?? Wow!
I have a Schefflera that I believe is a Golden Capella variety. I haven't had it long, and I think it was too dark at the nursery because it was leggy when I got it. I chopped the top and give it more sun, so it grew a bit bushier, but its slow going. I'm considering chopping it way back and propagating the cuttings.
However, since it has been a slow process, I bought a 30-pack of Schefflera Arbicola seeds (should be the regular green variety, Luseane, I believe). I started germinating about 8 in soil and then read about soaking them in warm water for 12-hours, so I'm trying another 8 that way as well. I hope to start a few single plants and 1 or 2 "batches" of plants that I was going to try to fuse together via inosculation for a nicer, wider trunk. But 39 days is a heck of a long germination - its a long time to wait when I've heard these can be finicky to grow from seed anyway.
