Yes, it is bead board backsplash. Keep in mind that with
time it is vulnerable to dirt, grime, grease and food particles might stick in the
grooves. This means that you need to choose very wisely the right protective
paint for your backsplash. Using bead board panels is not recommended for areas
with high humidity. Wood is not resistant to water damages and if moisture gets
in, the result is very likely to be mold. To avoid that, you have to use high
quality finish.

I wouldn't use poly. Marine Spar Varnish will do a better job. Man O' War is a really good product, expensive but worth the money. Good Luck!
