You can purchase a long downrod (up to 72 inches) for Minka fans. Try lumens.com. They carry Minka fans and the optional longer downrods. I like the Concept I fan and have used it in two homes. We have tall ceilings in our great room (probably about 20 feet) and have a very long downrod. It does wobble at the highest speed but is otherwise fine. Helps a lot in both summer and winter. I haven't measured but it probably hangs about 12 or 13 feet from the floor (above the second floor landing) and the breeze is fine.

Any idea how long that rod was or how far your fan is from the floor?

I too have a very high ceiling in my Great Room...what to do for air current? I learned it was the air movement, called CFM, was the most important number...the bigger the number the better for air flow. I found the very large, 3 blade 'airplane propeller' type ceiling fan has an excellent CFM number [14,400!] even at slow speeds. Next I lowered the fan 72"...still quite high but with the long blades, even at very low speeds, there is air movement....I'm pleased!

What size fan did you buy.

70" fan/3 blade
