Should I remove the wall or should I make it a half wall?

This is the wall between my living room and staircase room. The staircase room is a connector to the entrance, living room, kitchen and basement. The wall prevents the light from entering the living room and is somewhat useless. Should I open up the entrance to the living room by removing the entire wall with the the mirror (on the opposite side of the mirror there is a frame - see picture) or should I make it only a half wall (i.e. only the upper portion of the wall would be removed)? Thank you in advance for your advice.

It's difficult to get a real sense of the space, but based on what I can see, I would be inclined to open the entire height of the wall to the existing opening height while leaving enough of the width to allow the furniture with the lamp in the third photo to remain. However, opening the full height also presents you with a flooring repair issue where the wall currently exists. That's not too big of a deal if you have, or can get, more flooring. If you don't want to contend with the flooring, then that leaves the half wall option.
