Are you sure they are ants? By the size you described they sound more like spidermites. Do you have pictures of the leaf damage?

@growlove21. I am having some technical issues with the pics, but there are holes, both small and large, in the leaves of the plants. And the wee ants are true ants, and all over. I'm thinking about using DE....?

Ants generally don't bother plants at all but they could be an indication of other insect issues. And I would use caution if applying Sevin (note correct spelling!!) to any edibles as it is a pretty serious insecticide and there is a required delay between treating with this product and harvesting for consumption. Personally, I would avoid using on anything I hoped/planned to eat but suggestions for less toxic alternatives would require the proper identification of any insect pests. Which is always an appropriate first step before ANY sort of treatment, organic/non-toxic or not!!

Without seeing the damage it is hard to come to a conclusion. Are the plants still small and tender? If they are, then I would suspect snails / slugs rather than insects, because bugs are usually partial to one type of plant while snails go for anything they can reach. You don't describe the damage - but snails eat nearly the whole leaf, while most insects leave small holes - or take quite a while to strip the whole thing. Slugs can decimate a whole plant in one night.
