From DWR. Nice back, no?

Doesn't fit all the other criteria I realize. I have the bantam by DWR, which has a better cushion arrangement, but not the splashy backside!

I would take measurements of the sofa that is too big (length, depth, back height and cushion height) to use for comparing with potential replacements.

Sofa shopping is not easy. I had something specific in mind when I was replacing my old sofa and it took a couple of months to find it. And then I slept on it for another month before actually making the purchase. So my suggestion is totally based on my experience: One Kings Lane (online). Even if you do not buy from there; they have a great variety you can look and decide on design, legs, back, etc. Hope this helps

Have you considered going the custom route? Sometimes once it seems you've exhausted most or all of your possibilities, going custom could be the best way to go. And regardless of what many may think, it could also be as (or more) affordable than purchasing a similar version at retail prices. Plus then it can be built to your exact specifications and style requirements.

By the way, what budget do you have in mind for your new sofa?

Agree with adrienne about Ligne Roset. They have several sofas that look good from every angle. I have several pieces from them and they look like new after 9 years

That is a great looking sofa. I do like having three cushions if only to flip flop them around to have them wear more evenly. This one is Stickly and it looks great from the back as well, although it doesn't match all your criteria. I found that even knowing all the desired dimensions, to include seat height and depth, I still needed to sit on it assess comfort. I do not know how people are ever satisfied with an on line purchase of seating.

Have you ever owned a single cushion sofa? I'm not sure what you mean by bench style as opposed to loose, but I had a custom one made with a single cushion quite awhile back. It didn't get much use and is now in my daughter's nursery, but the limited amount of time I used it, it definitely started sagging in the middle. And this was a pretty pricey, quality manufacturer. I do love the look though!

I'm sure Vanguard Furniture would be a great option for a custom piece. Their Michael Weiss line is gorgeous and a little more on the contemporary style. I'd look into their customized options!
