What would you suggest if I got two new rugs?

Oh, thanks for that! My room is already very dark. And, so funny you should pick that design. I actually ordered that one from Overstock.com in a light grey, but it was thinner wool and the ends did not lay down. I found that the rugs are in the traffic path so they can be a tripping hazard if they curl up on the ends. Thanks for the ideas- I appreciate it.

Yes to the lighter grey if you find that our room is a bit dark, I really like the rug that you have under the table though! If you plan to change it then you could find one that also has a match this way you could have same rugs but in different shapes.

You could use 2 way tape to keep those corners down !

The room looks great with just the one rug, the one under the coffee table. And wow does that bowl on the table go well with the rug pattern! I'm not at all a fan of round rugs. If you decide you need a rug under the round dining table, then I like the idea of a square one. If you feel you need to lighten the space, then get the rug you have in a larger size, if that's possible.

I really like the idea of not having a rug so I can clean the floor easily-especially a white rug in the traffic pattern thru the dining room would be hard to keep clean.

For functionality may I ask a second question? I am thinking of changing the glass front cabinet next to the dining table for open shelves to actually hold dishes instead of just decorative. What do you think?

That's a lot of open shelving. If you're super neat it might work, tho the unused dishes would gather dust, requiring washing before using. A couple of open shelves are useful in a kitchen where they hold the dishes that are used on a daily basis, but the shelves you're contemplating may be just too many for practical use, and not close enough to the kitchen.

I like the size of your current living room rug, and I would leave the floor without a rug under the dining table. I don't think it is needed in the space, especially since it is a walkway. For the shelving, can't you use the closed cabinet for dishes? Dishes on open shelving will always be dusty.
