Yes, the bulbs get hot. Try the bulb in a different lamp to see if it is the bulb or the lamp switch going out.

A lot of people think that. The little chip in the middle that puts out light stays way cooler than the bulb. In an incandescent bulb, the filament that puts out light MUST get hot to create the glow which is the light. So when people say that LEDs don't put out heat, it is referring to the actual light source in a relative way to incandescent. The transformer and drivers in the LED bulb are what gets hot, not the LED chip itself. In fact, one of the big problems with LED bulbs is engineering them so that the transformers don't make the LED chip and other components so hot that it fails. The problem gets even worse if you put the bulb in a lamp that traps the heat.

My lamp was quite open. Nonetheless, it was the bulb gone bad. I put it in a different lamp, and in 30 minutes it was going off and on randomly. I hope the others don't go. That will be an expensive lesson on my part. Thanks for your advice.
