Zone 5B – SW Ohio:
I have three small eastern white pines planted in a bed. They were seedlings
from other much older pines in the yard. I transplanted them into this bed in
2012. They have done well for four years. The smallest one, about 2 feet tall,
suddenly turned brown in late May. A larger one about 3 1/2 feet tall, located
near the first one, is starting to have needles brown at the top. They are in
full sun. I have not irrigated the trees this year. The bed they are in is
sloped. No sign of insects that I can see. In the reading I have done it looks
like either white pine decline, or white pine root decline. The second one is
apparently contagious. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.
I will try to
post pictures below.
