Tide Pur Clean

There was a discussion here about it and it's ingredients, but what I really want to know if anyone has tried it and been using it for a while. There's a sale that I can try it for a reasonable price and score some other tide favorites at the same time. How is the performance on normally soiled laundry? Does any of the "honey lavender" smell remain after wash / dry cycle? Would you buy it again? I intend to use this ( if I end up buying it) , on blacks and my kids very dark navy school uniform shorts and polos due to the absence of OB"s. So what's the word? Any pur clean fans out there? Love it? Hate it?

I thought I read someone on here saying that the scent is pretty strong and not particularly pleasant. I've been looking for the unscented, but apparently is hard to find.

I have smelled in the store a few times and it is, to me, very sweet and synthetic.

Also, it is not "he turbo". Non turbo "he" P&G products are notoriously sudsy, even though they are marketed as "he". Be careful.

I bought it when it first came out and hate the smell. It's very strong and cloying out of the dryer and really lingers. I hated it so much I took the time to call P&G and they sent me a gift card.

It cleans well, but I just can't get over the sweet, synthetic scent. I'm not sure what they were thinking and they really missed the mark when they decided to use such a sweet and artificial perfume. They *might* be coming out with an unscented version. I also think they got the pricing all wrong. It's almost twice as much as regular Tide, which is just absolutely ridiculous.

In my Duet on Heavy Duty with its high water level 1 T created sooo much suds..P&G should be ashamed of themselves

Greeny I agree the scent is bad..possiably their worse scent to date. Give it a name like Pur Clean than use synthetic fragrance..its just a gimmicky money maker.

Do you remember the scent of Downy Fabric enhancer? It was a clearish looking liquid in a bottle with a gold or dark teal cap. The honey lavender scent of this is the exact same one they used for that Downey. This has since been discontinued, true to P&Gs time honored tradition for killing flat out stopping the production of laundry products I love.

I'm on my third bottle of Purclean and it is my new favorite detergent. It does exceptional on any clothes with colors. I've not been brave enough to bring it over to my whites yet but if any indication can come from using it on my good clothes, it will be exceptional there as well.

Everything gets a scoop of Clorox 2 at my house which no doubt, aids in stain removal.

Ok, I don't think it's THAT bad. It certainly isn't my favorite. It does clean well, but Cheer powder is much better. I actually have never had an issue with suds, but the scent is stronger than I prefer.

Well, I bought it a couple weeks ago, and have washed a couple loads with it as I am reserving it for blacks and very dark clothing due to the absence of OBs, and I actually really like it. The scent is, in my washer/dryer, (full fill super capacity TL) only very lightly noticeable on the finished load. I do agree that it's overpriced, which is why I'm using it on darks only. I didn't think I'd like it as I lean towards more "fresh" old fashioned laundry scents, but for me it's so light that I'm liking the scent!

Andrew..are you adding the Downy to the wash cycle?

I havent had to since I cut my doses. I only had to dose FS into the wash cycle to eliminate suds twice and that is because I forgot that I treated a stain and then put a 1.25oz dose in the dispenser. Another time I washed some synthetic gym shirts and they always oversud if you don't cut the detergent down. I buy the Downy Libre Enjuague in the large bottle at our local Big Lots or Mexican grocer and just throw in a light dose (1-1.5oz) in the fabric softener dispenser to cut static and soften cottons. It's a really light scent after drying and pairs well with the Pur Clean. It is also way cheaper than big box Downy(which now stinks).

I have yet to find libre enjuague anywhere down here. Our Latin population is mostly Cuban and central and South America and they're all about the suavitel. I probably wouldn't buy it and if I did it would just be for me to smell it (if it smelled anything like old af) lol!

FS in the wash cycle coats the fabric and prevents the bath solution from getting into the fibers to give a deep down clean which is expecially important for work out clothes. I do understand adding it in an emergency over suds, but I wouldn't use it for suds control.

Mama, no Downey to the wash cycle. Unless it's a "Tide with Downey" product you are referring to.

Can this product be used with down pillows and comforters? Or are there enzymes in this detergent?

Enduring, Tide Pur Clean does have protease and amylase.

Out of curiosity I called P and G inquiring about the high sudsing nature of PurClean and it appears that because of the biobased nature they did not include a synthetic defoam/desud agent. I gave them the lot numbers from the four bottles I have and they were going to escalate my concern but said the sudsy nature is normal. I fully suspect that my washer is more susceptible due to the recirculating spray feature which stokes up the suds and foam considerably. I am unable to use Persil Pro Clean and Tide Simply in it for that reason. As suspected the agent in their quality department suggested I cut the dose down by half or one third as I have been doing. They are also sending me a packet of coupons for reporting the issue.

They wouldn't include a synthetic defoamer, but they had no problem including synthetic fragrance.

I received a sample of the Pur Clean with an online order I received from jet.com. I didn't want to use it on my laundry since I despise the scent. I took it over to my mom's and tried it on a load of her laundry. It caused the machine to go into a suds lock! Not sure how many rinses it did but the last rinse still had some suds. They need to reformulate this ASAP!

literally...do ANY of these manufactures test their detergents on the longest, hottest cycle, in the softest water? If they did, they would see their products make way too much suds.

It's not rocket science...and to think...these are "educated" (probably college educated) professionals that let a simple thing as suds control get past them.

Yes all because they didn't want a synthetic suds killer in Tide Pur.....which is not Pur...and has synthetic fragrance which is the most common cause of skin issues caused from detergent. ..shaking my head in disgust.

I'm thinking P&G probably has much higher raw material costs for this detergent because of the plant-based ingredients. Synthetic suds-suppressing agents must be expensive, and that's the real reason they didn't include them..

I like it. Sudsing is not an issue for me (TL) and we like the scent. I could see how this can be aggravating and misleading for people who think this is an "all natural" detergent and end up having an asthma attack because of the added fragrance. It's more of a "hybrid", I suppose. I know ppl who are sensitive to smells and /or asthmatic who are bothered by the other scents even from all green companies and have to use free and clear detergent.

Two things come to mind... 1. Everyone is referring to this like it is a "free and clear" or "sensitive" product. It is not. It is bio based. They are marketing it as a product that is kinder on the environment and less harmful, not as a competitor to the own Tide Free products. 2. To qualify for the EPA's verification in biobased products, they had to meet a certain number of criteria pertaining to petroleum based and organic based raw materials used in the product. I am sure that the defoamer was an issue and the scent was figured into the calculation. Even the average "natural" detergent contains scents, even synthetic ones, because scent sells. Many of the users of this forum are reliant on their own opinions to define what they think is a good product for the market, when in reality P and G is the market leader because they cornered(and in the same sense ruined) much of their highly scented product. Btw they are launching a scent free Pur Clean this fall.

Yes Andrew. Perhaps people are misled by the "Pur", which brings to mind"pure", which if they don't read past the name, it could easily be confused for a free and clear and /or sensitive skin det. I (being the type of person who reads the entire bottle before purchasing anything), got the gist of it being more environmentally friendly, which I like the idea of but truthfully did not buy it for that reason. I bought it because I got a great sale and I needed a det w no OB for my darks. The fact that it has plant derived enzymes was a bonus as my kids school navys get stained horribly, mostly food stains, so this seemed like a happy medium and it does perform quite well! Thanks for the very well written reply!

It's hit the shelves in SFL!

All I can say is I will never but y it again. Hadn't had issues with it previously but then this happened yesterday. In the middle of needing to do tons of laundry because our toddler came down with stomach flu too. Had used the same amount of detergent as usually did.

Omg...how much did you use..are you sure there was nothing with dish liquid on it..or something heavy pretreated...this couldn't be from one normal dose ...surely.

OMFG Jennifer B!!! That is the worse sudsing I have ever seen, and I have had my fair share of oversudsing/dosing.

If you used the same amount as you usually do, something must of had soap on or in it. Did you use a stain remover or add an Oxi or Tide pod?

This just cannot be from one normal dose, that you have used before!!!

I have this issue on occasion with normally reliable detergents, though Jennifer might have just won the Bobby Brady award. It seems to depend on what detergent I used previously. More often when using a 'green' detergent after a conventional

Wow, I find I can use a lot of Pur and not get sudsing like that!

I really did use the same amount as I had for probably the previous 20 loads with Pur. I thought for sure it was an issue with our washing machine and not the soap. But we went out and bought regular Tide after our epic over sudsing last weekend, and no issues since then!

Holy suds! I haven't had the issue but I'm super careful with dosing. It is more sudsy then my usuals though. I recently decided I'm going back to Miele powders (colour and whites) for most of my laundry with just a few liquid specialty detergents.

I'm curious as to how well it's selling. I've picked up a few bottles of this for 7 bucks a piece at a local grocery store, which makes me think they're clearing out stock and can't sell it. But the box stores are still selling it for 12, and it never goes on sale with the other Tide.

Jennifer Bachman..I agree 100% with you. I just purchased the product from Costco..4 washes later, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th loads were an explosion of suds in and out of the washer. I unfortunately did not take any pics of the 2nd and 3rd completed loads where the suds were busting out of the machine and all over the floor surrounding my machine. I too Jennifer, had the same experience as you, my first load was perfectly fine...2nd, 3rd and 4th was a complete gong show. I also thought I had a problem with my machine, but that is not the case, it is the product. My 4th load today was two dining chair slip covers where I used approx 1/2 less than the #1 line. Again a washer overloaded with suds. As I did not want to clean up yet another mess, I stopped this particular load and ran a rinse. Before anyone comments, no I did not overuse the product, and no I did not use more than I have with my previous Tide products ( I only use Tide) On the contrary, I am very frugal with the amount of soap I use as I believe the "recommended" in some cases is too much. I can say I think the fragrance is very nice...soft and not over powering in anyway. Unfortunate Tide, very unfortunate, but I will be returning the Purclean.

This is 10 mins into my wash cycle. I stopped this load and ran a rinse cycle.

UPDATE as I wrote the above comment I was running my rinse cycle..I went back to my machine and this is what I found....if that doesn't give you any sense of how much sudsing this product creates then I do know what will.

I have a Miele w4842 front loader amd I've never had that amount of suds with the purclean ... that's CRAZY

    last modified: 9 years ago

Toni, if you ever have this happen again, I understand that putting some fabric softener into the soap dispenser, chasing with some water, will knock the suds out, in an emergency like you have here.

livebetter...I have a Blomberg and it really seems to be hit and miss with the the type of washers people have..which makes no sense all! Go figure =(

Exactly what I experienced with the PurClean. I dumped Downy down the chute and that was that but still. This is a ridiculous amount of suds for a product that's safe in HE machines. Id call P&G before returning it. They will send you a good coupon but you need the bottle when you call than return it. I'd also send P&G a pic. What a mess you had to deal with.

Wish I had read the reviews before I ended up with a washer full of soap suds. I used way less soap than is suggested because our clothes are not that dirty and I want a nice, clean rinse. Well, I am rinsing and spinning and rinsing and spinning.... won’t buy Purclean again.

    And I thought I had a sudsing problem....sheesh!

Tide PurClean needs to be he turbo STAT!!! I too, have ridiculous sudsing issues with a few loads. It cleans and smells great, but the sudsing is just not acceptable. Shame on P&G again!!!

I have an old, top-loader, "water hog" and I love Tide PurClean. No extra suds -- perfect. Sorry.

I don't have this many issues. Certainly when washing in higher temperature it is worse, but not horrible. I find it rinses out quite well. I would feel far more comfortable if it were HE Turbo as well though.
