I just bought two this weekend at Summerwinds fall sale. Actually, I bought one on Thursday and liked it so much I went back on Friday and bought another! I hadn't seen it before was quite taken with it.

Gardengal...you write it is mostly evergreen. How much cold does it tolerate before it starts to lose leaves and appearance? Overall, what does it look like in winter?

I've not specifically grown 'Moonlight" but the species and 'Night Heron' have foliage that remains looking pretty decent all winter. I would leave in place until I saw new growth in spring and then remove.......much like you do with various epimediums and hellebores.

Being variegated, Moonlight's foliage may start showing signs of winter 'tatteredness' earlier than the solid colored........depends on the weather. But it should not be overly distressed by cold in your location. And supposed to take on some interesting cold weather color.

I am definitely looking forward to watching this plant go through the seasons. It certainly reads well.

Another question occurs to me which is how water needy is it? It looks like a plant that will suffer quite quickly if underwatered. I'm hoping this isn't true, of course.

Give it good rich organic soil and a mulch of leaves and you will be surprised how much it doesn't need water.
