If you're going for modern, definitely change the light fixture to something more sleek, something that is of a similar design to the new chairs and table. The paint color goes well with the cream furniture right now but once that changes the paint color might have to change to another color, maybe a cool grey.

You are right. :). I guess this is what happens when you start relying on microsoft to auto correct everything when you are in a hurry to post and it is not available.

What about adding a chair rail? Will that make the room less modern and Smaller?

That rooms needs everything ... paint, furniture, drapery, chandelier, area rug. I won't ask why your chairs are going to be navy, I will only say I don't recommend adding a random color to a room for no reason. Unless this color is a theme in your house that is going to be carried through, I would stick with neutral colors for a sophisticated look. Whatever you decide, I would put an area rug under the table and chairs. When I first looked at that picture it looked like that was a mirror in the center of the back wall, but now I think it's an opening to another room (?) Assuming it's an opening, I would do something of symmetry on either side of it ... like a wood buffet/credenza on each side with coordinating art over each. And then you will need more lighting other than just the chandelier so I would do some kind of recess lighting or spot lights over each buffet.

Our new dining table will seat 6. It has a glass top with a dark brown wooden curved base for a frame. Something similar to the picture below. Also, i have included a picture of the chairs we bought for this table.

Sandra - a chair rail is a traditional detail so won't advance your modern look. Changing the light fixture would be my next priority . . that will help you signal your style. The pinch pleat sheers need to go and I think you may want a great blue on white sort of print that mostly stand open - you have some wonderful muntins . white painted trim. . I see a modern graphic fabric for the window drapery.

Since your table and chairs are dark, can't really recommend you go to navy on walls .. might consider a gray in the blue direction .. . . test bm pikes peak gray
