Carolyn - I don't like gray paint (too dreary here in the Pacific Northwest) so I can't help you with specific colors. I can tell you what I figured out when I remodeled my kitchen -- once the cabinets and appliances are in place there is very little exposed wall left to paint. I was able to go with a bold paint color (mustard!) that I would never consider using in another room. So unless you have a very large kitchen with lots of exposed walls, think of the paint color as an accent.

You might consider a "greige" - a gray/beige. Very popular now, and they go with almost anything. One really popular is called worldly gray by Sherwin-Williams. Another great one that is very similar is Revere pewter by Benjamin Moore. Almost the same color, just depends which brand you might prefer. Plenty of pictures on the site of both colors.
