Exterior door dye?

I want to dye several exterior wood doors.

I see dyed exterior doors on television and in magazines (primarily in Mediterranean Europe and South America), but can't find a dye that can be used in an exterior application with the protection of a clear exterior top coat- I've looked at 15 or 20 brands/kinds!

How is this done? What type of pigments are used? I have access to 2 different lines of paint tint. Might they work?

Oh, I'm in the Caribbean where it's HOT HOT HOT- so no freeze/thaw.

The lore is that water-based dyes are more lightfast than alcohol-based ones. Here is an article that discusses the issue: http://www.woodweb.com/knowledge_base/Lightfastness_of_Dyes_and_Stains.html

If you can, use dye as the base color, then go on top of it with an oil stain; the pigment in the stain will give a ton of UV protection to the dye.

Use a clearcoat with the best UV rating you can find.
