What are the modern trends regarding window guards?

I live in an area where is should protect my home against burglary, but hate the look of traditional window guards

    Back in the day they were common in many neighborhoods, but you see them less and less today -- mostly in higher crime areas. Since security systems have become more sophisticated and affordable, I think more folks are choosing those. I bet you could find some window guards that are more modern looking if you searched online.

    One problem with window guards is they block access in case of fire. We all think it will never happen to us, but house fires are all too common. Something to think about.
