Good Girl! (Sniff...)

Our lovely, dear yellow lab mix rescue is a killer. Yes, that sweet dog that cuddles with us killed a groundhog in the backyard today. She treed it, but it couldn't hang on for long and she knew just what to do when she got hold of it.

I'm a sap when it comes to all living things (save bugs of most any sort) and it made me sad there was no stopping it.

I had to walk down into the (very wooded) yard with leashes to get her and our bichon away from the dead rodent, and after I comported myself, I praised her and gave her biscuits.

I know, I know, that's what dogs do and she's a good girl for helping us get rid of vermin. I'm just catching my breath and trying to tell my inner city girl to buck up!

(Yes, she's had her rabies and all shots and it looked like a clean, snap-the-neck-kill)

Awww .... I'm the same, love all critters. As you said, she is doing what nature told her to do. Glad it was a clean kill.

I had a dog that went after garter snakes, which I like in my garden! He'd grab one and shake his head to kill it, and the ends would go flying ... he was so proud of himself after.

awww.. she looks like such an angel..lol

I have two bulldogs. One has a very high prey drive - which is rare these days in the breed. He'll chase down anything that moves. My other though, well he could not care less..lol

awwww! what a sweet lookin' killer! LOL

i had a dane boy, bentley, who "killed" the same possum at least a hundred times. he had a very high prey drive but once the possum was "dead", he walked away from it. one winter evening, he shot out the dog door in a tizzy. i knew he had seen something out the bedroom window so i let him have his fun. unfortunately for me, after he "killed" the possum, instead of leaving it at the end of the deck as he usually did, he brought it IN through the dog door, dropped it on the floor, and promptly went back to bed. as i was shoveling it up in the snow scoop, it started to squirm. couldn't get that ugly thing launched over the fence quick enough!

psst, count your blessings...in case you didn't see my post, my dane girl thought she would kill my van in order to get to the bunny that was hiding under it...

I used to think my Boycat did not kill birds until one day he forgot to hide it... . Another of my cats caught a swallow; they dive low up here on the mountain and I think it just kind of flew into the surprised cat;s mouth, I took it from him and it was dead; marvelled at the colours. That same cat was a hunter, Late one night in that wilderness house I heard a great screaming and banging from the other room and when I carefully went in, he was sitting shaking by the dead body of a huge rat.... Never had another rodent in the house after that; they all went up the drive waving a red flag.... Nina; try explaining to a landlord that your collie did not mean to climb up a wall and kill a water pipe with her teeth...dratted plumber kept the evidence.
