Oh no! Back splash doesn't go there! They should fix that!

@Sophie how is this a safety hazard? This is where the counter chairs will go. It is standard in all of the houses of this model. I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

There is a chance that when you remove the 4" splash, the panel will be damaged beyond repair. That being said, it's also possible that you can clean off the adhesive and it'll be fine.

If it in fact damages the panel, the only option I can think of is the cabinet company providing you with a 'skin' to cover the entire side panel. That is a 1/4" panel out of the same cabinet color that they can cut and adhere to the existing panel.

Another pro mentioned the overhang- if it's greater than 12 inches, ideally it would have some sort of concealed support to prevent it from cracking if weight is applied.

Your island is not a safety hazard haha... Anyways, I would contact the granite installers ASAP. We NEVER put backsplash on cabinets.. Only walls if requested because usually our clients like to tile backsplash from cabinets straight down to counter. When placing orders with us, you check off whether you require 4" BS or not. I think you should contact them if you did or didn't and even if you did, what kind of company installs them there... They should pay for the cabinetry to be fixed in my opinion. I hope you fight for it!!

We don't install backsplash on cabinets. I think you should contact the granite company and talk to them before you do anything.

The island looks fine. You don't need extra support unless your overhang is bigger than 12''.
