Is that no warranty from the showroom or no warranty from Miele? I would call and speak to Miele directly and inquire.

How much do you need to save the money? Does the showroom have a service department? Are they going to give you at least a few months of repair or return? Can you buy a warranty?

What you describe is basically the same as buying used appliances off of Craigslist. Sometimes it's worth the gamble buying something with an unknown history and no warranty. Cpartist said saving half or more--I'd say it should be the or more, as in priced no more than a third of new, and that much only if they'll give you time to return it, a few months after installation, to make sure it's not damaged. If you're not ready to install, pass.

Totally different story if there's a full year, full warranty. Usually demo units have some kind of warranty if they are being sold as bargains (i.e., half or more of new) rather than sell offs.

If you charged it, you might be able to charge it back if you got it and it didn't work, but I wouldn't want to take something people have been fiddling with and have no warranty. If Miele will stand behind it that's one thing, but I've seen displays sold with no warranty -- and they use a different item or stock number so they know it was sold without a warranty. I agree with the less than half -- and even then, I'd probably not want to chance it. If they give 90 days or something, possibly.

Call Miele directly re: warranty. It usually applies once installed. A 2 yr old unit may not have full warranty but it may be reduced to 1 yr.

if no warranty, I'd keep looking. I was able to find floor model appliances with a significant discount but full factory warranty. Significant being $2700 for a $4500 Wolf steam oven and $3100 for a $5000 Thermador induction.

no, the prices are a few hundred $$ off but not half. The showroom says Miele won't honor the warranty because it was already installed at their place not mine. Don't know if I can buy a warranty from the dealer but it doesn't sound like Miele will support it. thanks for input everyone!

Definitely not worth a few hundred dollars. There is a thread about may be replacing a Miele DW. Look at what people were spending or a single repair there. From what I remember, about $400 on average and $800 in one case.

A big reason for the warranty is to cover things that come loose in shipping and installation, bum parts, and things they couldn't turn up in ordinary factory testing. That is, they do their best, but know that by the time first quality, new in the box appliances get to you something could have gone wrong, and it might even take some months of use (and lag between installation and really getting into using it). So they cover it. Without the warranty, it's barely worth a quarter of new because things could shake loose between the showroom and installation at your house, and your regular usage could turn up a fault that was there before it was installed at the showroom. You shouldn't have to pay for those. That means either you have a solid, full coverage warranty, or you pay enough less to pay for diagnosis, parts and labor for a couple of different failures. And that's starting with a lower number than a few hundred off, because having been previously installed and used there's depreciation to be taken into account.

Not a bargain at all. Just the showroom trying to get your money in exchange for their problems.

I was in similar situation hesitating to buy Miele floor models
however with 60% + discount it was really hard to refuse such a deal. Obviously no Miele
warranty but for $250 I took dealer's 5y extended warranty on both
MasterChef ovens, skipping on vent hood.

I got the standard warranty when I bought my floor models, but they were only 30% off, I did buy the 5 year extended warranty as well.

Not a Miele, but we recently bought a freezer floor model for 50% off plus $50 off for not taking the free delivery, It came with the manfacturer's warranty but we decided to take part of our savings and extend the warranty. We hadn't used our store accont in so long, we had to reapply for credit (will pay it in full, but get rewards) -- meaning we got an additional 10% back. Just as another example of what you can expect with a floor display nit. Models are about to change -- seems the new ones come out late smmer or fall, so keep looking.
