pocket or barn door for Master Closet and laundry space

We are planning on using a pocket door for our Master closet, but I am now wondering if any door is even necessary. We both are pretty organized and I think we would be leaving the door open anyway-so why spend the $$ on a door. Is it important to have a door to the closet in the Master Suite?

My other door question is about the laundry space-This is a small space that we have just made even smaller to give us a little extra room in the kitchen. We pushed in just 1 foot, but in the small room, 1 foot makes a difference. Looking at this space I lose quite a bit of storage space that the door will use. Also a lot of the window will be covered by the door. I am thinking about using a barn door instead. Would this work? Are barn doors heavy?

I'd go with a smaller door to the laundry room. See it you can accommodate a 30" pocket door. And yes, I think you should put a door on your closet. Looking at clothes and shoes isn't terribly romantic or peaceful. And future buyers will be "huh?"

If you put in a barn door, it will use a lot of wall space that looks like it's in your kitchen. Is that wall area not needed for anything else? You could also use a frosted glass door, which would still allow light in from that window when the door is open. I would put the pocket door on the bedroom closet. Even if you keep it tidy, you will still be looking straight into the closet from your bedroom, and it would be nice to have the option to close it when you want to.

That area in the kitchen where the barn door would slide is just the side of the cabinets. I just hate to lose that space where the door will open into the laundry room since it is so small.

It doesn't look like you have room for a pocket door to the laundry. A 36 inch door can't slide into 30" of space. My laundry is very small, like your proposed odrawing, and it was difficult to install the washer and dryer. If I had a do-over, I'd add a foot to the width. You will hear a lot more noise from the room with a barn dooro than with a pocket door, fwiw.

You can get a pocket door with glass in it so light still gets let through. I'd say definitely put a door to the closet. You may not want one but if you decide later you do, you'd just put the door back on (put a door frame and take off the door is what I'm suggesting) easy to put back or take out- whichever you choose

Try Johnson Hardware they mfg quality sliding door hardware. They sell double and I think even triple sliders that would work in your situation. Basically say a 36" door is cut in 1/2 and 2 18" sections slide into the 30" space.

Barn doors are all the rage but they have drawbacks such as noise. stick out from the wall and will go out of fashion. A sliding door can be had with soft close and a latchable handle.

wannabath-I really like this idea and see how it could work great for the laundry. Do you have any pictures of this? Would it be very expensive?

I have never seen anything like that. It would require a very deep pocket ( read very thick wall.) Still, interested. Wanna bath?

You could, of course, look at bifold doors to solve the problem.
