Since you have been waiting for a girl, of course change it! You don't have to paint walls pink, but brighten space up with a neutral soft even pink side color. Change cover on chair to a coordinating stripe. The quilt looks handmade and beautiful. It Mike make a wall hanging to be preserved. Just so it isn't first thing you see. Change bedding accents to coordinate with new fresh wall color. I will search for options and post in a bit.

Oh, also eliminate cornice boards. Too heavy for baby room. Find Roman shades that can provide light control.

I agree, change some things to bring in some pink -- it is fun! But I don't think a complete overhaul is necessary. I would keep the chair and perhaps the window treatments, but get some new bedding and paint the walls a softer pink color.

Sure. Just replace blue/green/yellow with blue/green/purple and you'll be in a whole new world. New quilt, new accent pillow, maybe find some art with girlier vibe... Go more saturated if you can.

Your nursery is adorable and doesn't need major changes. You can absolutely keep the wall colour, the cornices, and the chair.

Here's what I would change: Refresh the curtains to a lighter off-white/cream, or a very soft pink, and the rug to a rectangular, soft, slightly fluffy, off-white. Replace the wall accents with something with touches of pink. A fancy letter of the baby's name, etc.

Add soft pink toile bedding with solid pink sheets and/or pink stripes. Retire the current and adorable quilt and pillow.

Switch the light fixture to a mini-chandelier (Ikea and Home Depot and Bouclair all sell suitable ones for less than $100.)

You're done! You can totally refresh this for less than $500 if you shop wisely. :-)

For fresh paint color try some sample boards. Try Home Depot, Behr paint W--8-100 Billowy Clouds. This color is very light and subtle so you could pair fabrics with it easily. Of course, I always recommend testing 3-4 colors on sample boards in your space so you can see what the natural and artificial light in the room does. It helps define shades and densities. This is on page W1 of their fan deck. Check out the other colors on that strip as well.

I would strongly recommend removing the cornices, even though you say you like them. They are heavy looking a weight down room. This girl needs something lighter. The paint color is too dark, again in my opinion. But lightening it withe the neutral but slightly blush tone will make this room smile! I think a good chance up is in order for this blessing!

I like your room a lot and agree with the person who said girl's rooms don't need to be pink to be girly. That being said, I understand you wanting to change the decoration after having 3 boys. ;) I'd keep the chair and cornices, paint the room a lighter shade of the blue in the fabric of your chair, or some blueish gray (BM Wickham Gray) and introduce some pink on the bedding and rug.

I second Kaka's statement and offer purple instead of pink or in addition to. Keep the original parts you like and update the bedding and wall accents (pictures or hangings) to bring in new colors.

It can work as is, but for a change I would get rid of the green and keep the chairs and cornices. I would consider a blue and white wall paper, possibly a stripe. Bring in other blue and white patterns like plaid, stripes, florals, and solids.

I have always marched to my own drummer. I realize that the "current" in thing is to do baby rooms in kind of generic themes. I have 3 boys and 1 girl and believe me, my daughter and I went wild and she is now a high level executive in a major technical company. Colors matter! At eight, she (with a little help from me) was designing her own room! She did a great job too. So, follow your inner "girl" and go where you REALLY want to go. Congratulations! I have 2 boys followed by a girl. As always, it comes down to budget and how much work you want to put into it. If you want to keep the current items, I would just change the paint to a soft yellow, a periwinkle blue or a lilac purple. Trust me you will be changing it all up within the first 3 to 4 years. She will tell you what colour it will be lol.

Your room is lovely. Knowing how young children fall madly in love with certain themes (ponies, princesses, Minions), I would minimally change now (perhaps light yellow walls) and save the redo until she is 2-3 when she will enjoy something more specifically hers. Right now it is a soothing place for a newborn and mom.

Love the coral idea! Full disclosure, I'm an anti-pink woman, so I would not lean pink for a more girly space. Love the toile chairs, no need to change them. Make the walls white or a light grey, add the coral and another bolder pattern to girl-up the blue toile. And a chandelier can be EVERYTHING. Go super girly there, and do something ultra feminine. Hi, congrats on the baby girl! Your existing room is very pretty. You can absolutely keep the blue toile chair, ottoman, etc. In fact, you can just make a few small changes like painting the room and adding some pink into the mix and it will become really girly.

Here's some adorable pink and blue girls rooms I came across to help inspire you!

Notice how both rooms have just one feature wall painted with pink stripes; you could do something similar, and keep your other blue accessories. Then add a pink throw blanket, some pink pillows on the chair and bed, etc. and you're good to go!

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I believe we're going get some fresh bedding that's a little more feminine yet incorporates some blues and greens to try to work with the paint, rug and chairs. forget the pink. just incorporate some lavender and purple. It goes well w/the green you have. Maybe do some black/white roman shades and change out a few minor things to charcoal. Periwinkle, lavender, orchid, gray, all play well with the green you have on the wall. Baby won't care and its less work for you to worry about. Bring in some different art work and enjoy!

I would make the entire room blue and white...match the wall paint to the blue toile but have them mix at only 50% at the paint store...add lots of white...and than pops of blush pink...add panels under your valances in pure white with pink ball trim...add a blush pink lampshade and new white and blush pink bedding....so darn cute! add a blush pink flower pillow onto the chair and find a new pink rug...check out Restoration Hardwares baby and nursery online site..no doubt you will find some beautiful soft pink items!!

Seems like you've already decided to get new bedding, but in the event you don't, a fancy chandy and the addition of some sweet botanicals would carry the room nicely into feminine territory. Like a previous poster said, save the pink for when she's ready for a big girl bed. There will be no escaping it then!:)
