I have had bad experience with West Elm furniture. The quality isn't great. I've refused and cancelled orders due to poor quality. I won't buy anything other than accessories from them.

I suggest that you check out a furniture store over Labor Day weekend when they're having a sale. You can buy the frame you like. You'll find a lot more fabric choices - including some that are pre-treated. Good brands to look for are Lee and Duralee. I especially like Duralee. You may pay a little more, but you'll have a sofa that will last and isn't staple-gunned together.

For an extra charge, a good store should be able to have the fabric sent out to a company that can pre-treat the fabric with Teflon, etc... I've done this with fabrics to be used in kitchens with great success.

Remember, you can always hire your local interior designer to help you pull this all together!

Jennifer, Thank you for your message but I have already ordered it. I don't have a choice. I just want to know if I could / should add stain protection.

I know this is an old post - but I want to let you know that there are different types of performance fabrics (different definitions of performance, as well) - Crypton, Sunbrella, and other options. Some can have stain resistance inherent in the fibers - some have a stain resistance applied. You should always check with the manufacturer about applying a treatment to a fabric, because it can cause problems with the fabrics and even void a warranty.

I have the same question about velvet and scotch guard. Did anyone find the answer? Also west elm furniture is amazing and great quality.
