Hello! Please tell me what the colors of the bedspread are- I can help further from there. Can't tell if it's green or tan. Otherwise I'd say get some artwork for the walls, some fun patterned lamp shade (or add pattern in your room somehow)

The bedspread is OK if you want to keep it. If you did keep it, paint the night stands green or get green patterned lampshades. Will attach pictures. Some bright green pillows will help liven up the room

You could also paint the base of the lamps. Definitely paint the walls green

How about two equal sized rectangular mirrors or pictures above the night stands...that could brighten the space and mimic window shapes.

Do you have pics of the rest of the room? Window treatments, art?

Can you say more about your budget and what you might want to change? Do you want to paint, buy new furnishings, new linens, or smaller budget changes?

A few ideas if you are keeping the paint, furniture, and carpeting:

Beige and earth tone bedding will blend well with the headboard, won't be as harsh of a pop as what you have now.

Pillows with some circular patterns or wisps would help too. What you have now is very boxy.

Consider hanging matching mirrors or matching pictures behind the lamps above the night table, as seen in these pictures:

Also think about textures - hammered metal lamps, a jute runner under the settee. Some kind of framed picture behind the lamps with texture or metal finish to the frame. Ceiling painted same color as the walls would look nice.

I'd say my budget is more along the lines of doing something with the bedding, lamps, and then maybe some textured artwork as you mentioned. The white night stands bug me. Seem to stark, but spent more than I probably should have on them, so not crazy about replacing them and nervous to paint them...

It's so dark in there! I'd suggest a new bedspread. The side tables are salvageable especially if you don't want to spend a ton of money on your redecorating. New lamps are needed (something of unique and of interest). Then of course artwork. I would also suggest getting rid of that bench and replacing it with something else. It's also quite dark.

Beautiful color combo, the purple and pale green. Only thing I'd do is art over the nightstands.

I like the circular mirrors to soften the lines over the bedside tables and what about adding a panel of curtains over the headboard to give height and a focal point and would blend the headboard into the wall making one large shape from the ceiling down. If the curtain panels are dark and the bedding light it might look really elegant add the circular mirrors in silver and a nice light throw over the bench with texture.

If you look at the pics posted above, the artwork or decorative mirrors over the nightstands are all slightly narrower than the nightstand. The intersect in height with the lamp, to prevent them looking lost and "floating".

I like the white night stands. They don't match that well now which might be what bugs you. They can be styled in a variety of ways from bohemian to crisp. You don't need to paint them. Since you have a small budget I'd live with them for now. But maybe as others have suggested, some more white to go with them. It might look great, instead of that bedspread, to use something as simple as a white IKEA duvet. Not expensive. Some have quite nice texture for interest. Then add pop of colour you like as a throw on bottom or pattern pillows or both to tie together artwork, brown in your headboard etc. Many good suggestions here to help you improve your space into what you like. Don't rush. Think about it and look around. Study pictures you like and find affordable ways to copy them. Decorating on a budget can be really fun and satisfying. Until then you have perfectly functional bedroom. Post photos as you work on it! This is a fun challenge.

Ps. Is this a rental or your own place? Can you paint the walls? This can make a huge difference. If not, then you can definitely do this project with some artwork, etc. if you buy things, remember to check the return policy. So that you can bring home and try. And remember .... Go slowly and thoughtfully. Sometimes, for those of us on limited budget, it's better to live with what we have and save up for things we really like and want! At least that's a life lesson I've learned.

Julie, Look online for measurement ranges of mirrors and artwork you might like. Cut out paper bags to those measurements tape them to, the wall on both sides of the bed and post the pics. You will get plenty of feedback about the right size.

If you are considering new lights, remember much of the light is about the size and shape of the shade. I wonder if new shades on those lights would work or if you do need a chunkier lamp.

Glad you're keeping the night tables. After bedding and artwork are in place, play around with large placemats on your night tables and contemporary drawer pull rings. Inexpensive way to dress up the night table, like putting the right jewelry with a nice outfit.
