Hi there- I just did hood shopping for my new 30" Bluestar gas range. I learned a LOT about CFM's, the measurement of the draw from the hood. Based on your range, the manufacturer will have a recommendation for the CFM range that's needed for the potential heat output of the range (BTUs). Start there. REalize that with a 48" range, the minimum CFM needed is likely to be over 600. That's where you need to start.

Go to a website that sells primarily venting options, I liked ventingdirect.com. But there are many..... you can sort by width, and CFMs. That's your starting point! You can also filter by price, so there you go! A range (pun intended) of options within your price range. Then it becomes a matter of finding the style you like, and the options. Do you want LED lighting, halogen, etc? Three speeds, with remote control? Also pay attention to the noise level. Tehre's a measurement for that.

Also, not to get all technical, but with a hood with a 600 CFM or greater range, you will want to consdier a make up air damper. That's because you're pulling so much air out, you need to make sure its replaced...... ask someone in the biz, they'll describe it.

Finally, consider if you're installing yourself, or hiring someone to do it for you. If the latter, you may want to check with your current configuration of ceiling/external venting to make sure your choice is appropriate for your house.

I ended up with a professional style hood by Zephyr. Lower end of the CFM range at 600, but I'm assured it will be fine by Bluestar. I got the remote control, because I'm short and its hard for me to easily reach the controls. =0)
