Is my Japanese red pine sick?

10 years ago

I planted this Japanese red pine (Pinus d umbraculifera compacta) last year and it survived the winter. This summer it grows but it doesn't look right to me. It doesn't look as dark green when I bought it and the needles are not as dense. See photos.. On the 3rd photo, the pine cones stayed like this since May 2016 and didn't grow bigger at all. Is this normal? or is it sick? What can I do? Will fertilizers help? Disclaimer: I am totally newbie to plants.
