I do not have a garage but do have a large,drafty, old barn. Can I over
winter my figs there? What kind of protection would they require. Temps
have gone down to -10 F in the past.

Just spitballing here, but I wonder if it would be possible to overwinter figs in your barn by completely surrounding them with a wall of hay bales and putting a hay bale "ceiling" on top. The protection of the hay would nearly eliminate desiccation and fresh hay does produce some heat (in the way, say, compost would) and I wonder if that would be enough to get the fig through the winter.

If you wanted a bit of extra protection, you could run an extension cord and on the absolute coldest nights, put a small space heater in there to keep the temps just high enough above freezing.

Of course, I have never tried this but like I said, just thinking out loud...

Im sure others will have better suggestions they have tried themselves.

Figs are pretty cold-hardy....they lose their leaves and survive also severe frost (10°F or less)...so let it outside :)

Francesco, that will not work because the temperature can go as low as minus 10 F. I have a tree planted outside and every year it dies down to the ground. I cut off the dead branches. They grow back but never produce fruit. This is even with it being covered with leaves and a tarpaulin.
