I like the look of glass better it is less likely to show a chip

Glass Subway tile will cost more for the material and installation versus ceramic. But the look is way more appealing.

glass: trickier to cut nicely, which is part of why it costs more to install (that is, some tile guys charge more for glass or stone than for ceramic or porcelain). can be harder to match with grout. may not be able to take the heat behind a slide-in cooktop or stove, depending on specifics of the install. can be more delicate when, say, electrical outlets are being taken in and out. adds more shine than ceramic, can have depth and/or iridescence, depending on the type of glass.

I think I am going with the glass

Generally glass is more contemporary looking while porcelain and ceramic are more traditional. Also keep in mind that the color of the glass can change depending on what's behind it. I've seen cases where the homeowner selects the color and is dismayed when it is installed since it looks very different.

my kitchen only gets the morning light and I think the glass will give it a bit of extra sparkle. My cabinets are stained wood and I was going with cream tiles installed over a white subsurface.

You should also consider that grout color will change the way the glass tile looks (compared against the sample) if you use light colored or clear glass.

We have done lots of glass tile in recent years...and, lots of subway, too.

This week the glass mosaic backsplash installed last week will be removed. The first installation was a mess, i.e. crooked, wavey and significantly changed in color by wrong thinset and grout.

and yet

I am redoing with exactly the same tile.

Any words or wisdom about how to get a stunning result?

Andy…just noticed your question today….3 years later! Sorry. For what it is worth the tile is by “subway tile outlet” and the color is called sage green. Sage green is not an accurate name for the color and the website does not reflect the true color of the tile. Even my own photos are not real accurate (real color is softer and less green) I chose mine only after getting a sample.
