Sherwin Williams' Gray Screen

We are building a home and one of the main colors we chose to use throughout the house is Gray Screen from SW. After all of our research it seemed to be the right gray for us with a slight blue undertone. I went by our house today, and while they hardly even have the first coat finished, the color looks straight up PURPLE to me. My first thought was that they used the wrong color. But then I thought I would wait it out to see if the drywall peeking through was causing this. I know grays can be funny and that some truly have a violet undertone but I wasn't thinking that would be the case with GS. Has anyone out there used GS and it turned out looking purple? Or any encouragement that it will look fine in the end??;)

I haven't... some on houzz have pointed out that different bulbs can help. Are other surfaces in the rooms on the cool side / grey, etc... instead of warm wood, for example?

Right now there are no finishes in the house and only natural light. but we will have dark hardwood floors, a stone fireplace, and SW Extra White trim. Hoping that maybe all of that will set off the potential purple??

If Extra white means pure stark white I'd think that will contrast a lot with your gray. Possibly another trim color, but I'm not expert. Draw less attention to feature of walls/ windows with contrasts -- because you're not liking the paint.

[Hoping your fireplace is sleek and grey, could look sharp.]

Melanie, hello! I was wondering if you kept the Grey screen ended up looking good with your whire trim & dark hardwoods? We are having the same problem! We choose Amazing Grey at first but it was too taupe. After 20 diggerent grey samples we finally choose Grey screen but not I'm nervous b/c it looks too blue. We only have one coat on in flat right now and the 2nd coat will be eggshell but I just don't know if it will stay looking blue or look more true grey with the dark woods and white trim & a 2nd coat. Ugh!!!! Thanks!

Hello, hope all is well. I had the same issue with the the Classic French Gray (SW007) this color made my walls extremely charcoal gray not the light gray I was looking to achieve. I also had the same issue with Gray Screen (SW7071) this color made my was look powder blue. I had to visit the Sherwin Williams store and spoke with a representative about the issues I was having with their paint colors. They informed me that all of the paint swatches have a blue base mixed in the paint that was why I was seeing the different colors. They provided me with two samples of paint P-4 and P-5. They assured me I will have they desired color of light gray that I have been trying to achieve. Hopefully, this helps.

We just painted our entire house gray screen. Painters finished and it looks baby blue. I’m going to vomit.

Just painted my study Gray screen. Looks baby blue at this moment. Lord I hope it doesn’t look that way when I put my furniture and decor in there. Marcia - did you stick with this color and did It work out ?

It likely is the color of the light coming into your place! I had a similar problem with (I think) North-facing windows. Everything tinted blue. You might need to get a gray with different undertones to really pull it the color you want! Maybe a warmer gray that looks a bit more beige in the store will stay a nice neutral gray in your room?

I used Gray Screen also and it looks more of a light blue than a light gray. It's not at all what I was going for, but I continued the entire living room. It looks good with my furniture, I will leave it as is, but I will definitely need to find the right gray for my hallway.

Ughhh I am currently in the same boat with Gray Screen. I was hemming and hawing between 1000 grays and we were in a time crunch and thought this would be great. Just went to look at it and after one coat I am not loving how blue it looks. Hopefully once we get furniture in and stuff on the wall it will look okay. of course this is what 90% of the House is going to be painted on ♀️

We used the Grey Screen paint color, as well. In certain light, it is a light baby blue. Other times, the perfect grey. Considering we painting the whole first floor of our house with this color, it doesn’t bother me enough to change it, yet. I’ve tried to play up the grey colors in the rest of the room.

We did the 1st floor with gray screen too, do not use this color If you’re trying to go for gray walls, we have lots of light coming into our home and it looks like baby blue!! we have learned to live with it since my wife and I don’t want to re-do it, especially the foyer w/high ceilings (one of the hardest to paint) don’t want to go through that again. Sometimes it has a tint of gray at dawn, But we‘re going to change decor and lights to see if it helps. It’s still a nice color but not what we were hoping for! I have white trim, dark flooring. Which it to me makes it looks really nice.

If you want a true gray use Silver Chain the only true gray with no blue or purple overtones the Gray Screen is definitely baby blue
