Many people have crabgrass or some type of alternative/weed lawn. Many people are OK with their "lawn" as long as it is green. They don't care what is growing as long as it is green. It's really only a problem for crazy people like us who think a lawn should be something other than what the winds randomly blew into our yards.

Depending on where you are, crabgrass will die out at the onset of the first frost. So your lawn will be a dead brown patch until summer of the following year when the seeds from this year's crabgrass starts to germinate. If you can live with that, I guess it will just be fine. Add some clover, chick weed etc. And at least you will have some green year round.

Plus crabgrass sucks to walk on

Crabgrass is a summer annual plant. It needs to have seeds on hand in April to bring in a new crop. Inasmuch as you will be watering frequently in April to germinate the crabgrass seeds, so too will you be watering other summer annual weeds. Thus it would be hard to get a monostand of crabgrass year after year.

It seemed like a good idea since it seems to be very invasive and resistant to everything. It is also about the only thing that I can consistently keep growing. I don't know how many pounds of seed I have spread on the half acre of lawn.

BUT I get the point and I will not try to make my yard all crabgrass. Beside I would like to stay on speaking terms with the neighbors.

If you don't mind something that goes brown with the cold Bermuda is a better choice than crabgrass.

I was thinking that too, but in all honesty I get plenty of Crabgrass on my Bermuda still. Significantly less germinates if I stay on my pre emergent schedule of course.

I'm becoming convinced that torpedo grass/coastal Bermuda is the world's most invincible grass. It has taken 2 or my neighbor's yards & is trying to invade mine. It's not a terrible looking invasion if you consider Crabgrass acceptable.
