I love living in between, like the suburbs! You get the best of both worlds.

I grew up in the Bay Area, couldn't live there again for anything. Love rural life, only one in the family that does.

I live rural in the SW desert. I have neighbors but they aren't right on top of me and it is very quiet and peaceful. I would never move back to the city or suburbs having to share a wall or fence line with someone. I need privacy and peace.

and LOL at the country being expensive. you havent looked at real estate in boston lately i'm thinking...and our rural neighbors were far more likely to have rusting cars in their front yard and falling down houses. so... i think you need to get out more, sustainable dwellings!

Thanks! haha , I do get out actually! I know real estate prices vary in other areas. I personally would have a loft in one of my fav cities, AND my country horse farm! BTW, I have both teeth and shoes.... lots of them. Now, I've got to go feed my chickens.

I don't understand these polls. I live in a single-family house with a big fenced yard and garage on a tree-lined street of old Victorian homes in the heart of Chicago. It's incredibly convenient -- my work commute is 10 minutes door-to-door, I can walk to either a grocer or over a dozen restaurants in 5 minutes -- and I still have enough privacy to have a hidden outdoor hot tub. It's a really expensive way to live, but cities are not all loft apartments and upstairs neighbors!

Cities are terrific -- so much to do and explore -- many diverse settings -- tons of people so we can learn from others -- plus, cities are influential on surrounding areas!

so yesterday afternoon my husband calls me from work did i want to go to fenway last night, he had a pair of tickets from his company. why sure... took the subway met my husband went to the game. no planning no parking no long drive home.

Not sure I agree that suburbs are "the best of both worlds," since the best thing about the city to me is walking and using public transit to get everywhere.

I've generally found that when I live in the city, I will make time to get out into the woods and countryside, so day-to-day convenience wins out. Plus, townhouses are super-efficient environmentally compared to individual structures, so it makes one feel a bit less like an Energy Bigfoot American...
