I dont know if this helps you or not, but I live in a post and beam home. The beams and posts are all stained, the stair rail and spindles are as well. The window and door trim is all painted white. The floors are natural hardwood as well.

It's ok to mix things up, for me structural wood is stained, trim is painted. It lets the structure shine and be the star.

Try your paint colors in the space after the sheetrock is up and, if you can wait, primed. I have found that the wood doesnt play well with many colors. I have had particular difficulty with blues, they always end up looking like blue chalk. The wood reflects very red so blue's turn purpley, and not in a luscious aubergine way. Greens, buff, gold, cream have worked for me. My son's bedroom is a very deep sea blue which has a green undertone and looks great.

The stain is lighter, red er, browner in some areas and blacker in others. I'm hoping I can go more with the blacker.
