What a cool house! Do you really need the built-in bookcase? Where is your television located? I see an empty hole there. How many do you need to seat daily? Removing the bookcase would make the room feel beautifully spacious. If you do keep the bookcase, painting black is a good idea. I think you need a larger rug in front of the FP. Defining that area with a too small rug makes the space feel smaller.

Do you have any floor electrical for a lamp? I think a corner floor lamp by the sofa would look great.

Wow. That's a very interesting space that could have a lot done to it. My advice would be to get some decorating help in your next round of decisions on furniture. "Placement" is not your problem, and I say that with all due respect. You need to pick furniture that fits the style of that home and is up to date. You need to start over, from the very beginning, it's going to take more than a lamp to fix this, and you're going to need help so I would find someone who can lead you with this effort.

I think you have nice furniture. All it needs bigger rug that go with cow hide style and color. Remove peach chair, and replace coffee table. Paint white that natural color window or door. Add lamps and pillows in accent colors, maybe gold and green?

I would go with the lodge feeling your home already has, doing away with all but your sofa, hide rug, barrel chairs and the mount at the FP (lower it and remove the picture.) You have room to do a back-to-back sofa arrangement, so I suggest another tufted style like below to back up to your current one, both in front of the FP. Flank the FP with the two barrel chairs and get an appropriately sized coffee table for the smaller sofa.
