My favorite place when we were there last June was Tapas Brindisa London Bridge. It's very small and crowded, with a bit of outdoor seating, tables are close together and it's loud, but it's fun and the food is fantastic. Also, nearby, closer to the London Bridge, is Borough Market, which you must try! It opens in the morning and has different food counters serving every kind of food you can imagine, wonderful pastry shops, espresso, flowers, little shops. I'm not sure if it's open in the evening. We went on our last morning there and I wished we had gone before because I would've enjoyed visiting more than once.

I really enjoyed this restaurant The Hill in Greenwich but this was a few years ago. Also it's aptly named as it is up a huge hill! But taking the ferry down to Greenwich was a nice way to spend time on the Thames and a good afternoon/day trip.

My favorite type of food to eat in London was Italian. I have terrible terrible Italian food all around me here in Nova Scotia and it was excellent and interesting there. But we tried all kinds with great success.

My tip is I love using an app with my smartphone to find good restaurants near me. I enjoyed tripadvisor, it will do a compass and take you right to the restaurant, but this was a few years ago. Now I think I would use urbanspoon.

In the St. James area I like La Caprice. And also a bit splurgey, in the St James Hotel, is the restaurant 7 Park Place.

ETA .. oops, it is Le Caprice.

Perhaps someone can come up with specific named places, but the best dining experiences I had in London were the local Indian place and afternoon tea in Picadilly Circus. Too many years have gone by for me to remember the names.

Any Wagamama for Japanese noodles. Gaucho off Regent was a very good Argentinian steak house we visited several times that was always good but haven't been in a while. Sofra is Lebanese & also has small plates of very good food. I think they have several locations.

We all loved Tamarind, which although pricey, was a very special dinner. It's Indian food, located on Queen St in Mayfair. My entire family still remembers it fondly!
