Whatever they are I doubt they are pests of the Comfrey. It is well nigh indestructible and the only thing I have ever seen touch it is snails. I would guess the insects are incidental.

Comfrey is growing in the ground. The pest are not hurting the comfrey, they just stick to the leaves and make it hard for me to harvest. I use comfrey in my herbal salve. I thought it could be fungus gnats, its been so dry tho. I will make up some soapy water and see how that works. I really don't want to use any chemical on the leaves or soil if I can help it. I believe I have some kind of bug eating my comfrey, small holes on leaves and some of the leaves are curling and some of the leaves are browning on the edges. Viv in Central AB Canada
