Need help pulling my living room together

I purchased new furniture and put in hardwood floors. Now I need help pulling it together. Should I get round rug or rectangular--bright or muted. Should I get statement large piece of art on wall--bright colors--scenery? I was thinking about a photography piece on the lower antelope canyon. I'm a CPA and no good at this. Help!

Take painters tape and map out the size rug you need. I prefer all furniture legs on a rug, but make sure at least the front 1/3 of the furniture is on it. No to a round rug, rectangular for sure. You can go to a good carpet retailer and have a piece of broadloom cut and bound to your custom size.

I think adding light gray and navy blue would be beautiful!

I think photography art is wonderful and would look beautiful in your space. I would add a very large framed photo over sofa and add a round mirror over small console on wall between windows and add 2 slender lamps...off white linen drapery panels with a dark blue border would look gorgeous hung on a black rod with rings.

I Agree with a large rug that pulls in some color and another large picture on the wall . I would also add a couple of large floor plants, one in that corner by the sofa. A fiddle leaf fig might be nice,

what colors do you like? are you looking to make the room the main decoration or your art?

You have a neutral room, so color is certainly welcome! A light to medium coral would be a beautiful color to add brightness in the art and rug, as well as other accessories. If you have very little light coming into this room, it would be important to brighten it up. My living room is dark - even on a bright sunny day I have to put the lights on. When you go with a bright color, go with a very subtle print or go solid.

Lovely room! I like 111ideahound's suggestion of pulling in colors from the artwork in the room. Here are a couple more rugs (if you didn't have enough already).

darla you have a lovely neutral room. we do not seem to be getting through so lets start over. you asked about art and a rug. generally you get a rug with color because you like color in your room, or you are not into art, or you are still clueless. although there are a few who only feel comfortable when there is nothing of interest in a room. kinda like floating in a cloud.

there are two viewpoints regarding art in a room. a designer sees art as something that coordinates and brings color to a room.

artists, some designers and art lovers see art as something that stands on its own. it does not have to match the room. or the other way around. now if art is very important to you, you create a neutral room so everyones eyes go to the art not the other things in the room. if you are really into art, like me, my rooms are painted to go with the paintings that cover them.

now is the perfect time to make these decisions and if you like art, you can let go your beliefs that you do not have the knowledge to pick the right stuff. you should never buy from the big box store. when you get these special treatments on prints, they can cost more than original. so always go original. here is the list on buying

    buy local

too much? buy from etsi or saatchi often around $100. still nothing?

buy abandoned like i have from charity thrift, auctions, estate sales, even a few yard sales.

need it right now? there must be a 100s of ideas on line of how to make your own or do photos or album covers, use your imagination.

still no? then go to etsy or saatchi, pay $1 to the artist and get a download. you are going to be fairly unique, and the real cost is getting it made to your preferences. I like where they are printing on glass now.

i give you dozens of colorful rugs and noncolorful. but until you tell us colors to get or is monochromatic, we are just taking up space.

    hope this has helped?

havingfun and everyone, thank you so much for comments. I want to get a great piece of art and then coordinate the rug and additional décor to that. Recently, we visited antelope canyon in page, az, and we feel in love with the original photographs by Kenneth Young. The framed art at the local place was $2500 which I don't feel like we could afford, so I'm looking for some alternatives. I will check out etsy and Saatchi. thanks again to all

you know for that kinda money you could take the trip again on a photo tour, and take the pic yourself, they will guide you to getting the best shots. maybe do your whole trip as one scenario. you could use this pattern.
