Using Cedar Siding

In the midwest...has anyone used cement-board siding that looks like cedar? Pro/cons of natural wood vs. siding... Thanks for any help!

    would you paint the cedar siding? if so go with hardie cement board instead.For cost reasons here in the northwest hardie is less expensive than cedar. im not sure about the the midwest?
