My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

How do I hide green ID tags when viewing ideabooks in slideshow mode?

First off, I love this site. I've come across so many great ideas and professionals. Thank you.

However, I have a quibble. I was going through one of my ideabooks in slideshow mode and I noticed that the green ID tags are always visible, no matter how long I pause to view a photo. Additionally, as I move to the next photo, the ID tags flutter as if on a magazine page I've just turned. This is annoying and distracting but it's an additional concern for me because the added visual stimuli aggravates my chronic illness' symptoms, which will drastically limit how long I'm able to visit your site. It's also unnecessary since finding the tags in each photo is simply a matter of moving the mouse an inch or two to make them appear.

If I view the photos with the info sidebar and move the mouse all the white into the white portion, the ID tags disappear but I'm unable to move the mouse far enough off the page to do that when I'm viewing the photos in slideshow mode. Yes, I could easily view the photos this way but then I don't get to see the photos in full size plus the sidebar adds the visual clutter I try to avoid for health reasons.

Please help! I'm sure I'm not the only one who will appreciate viewing the photos in their simplest form. Thank you.

(I'm on a PC, using the latest version of Firefox.)

    Screw this.... I will look elsewhere. I can't do ANYTHING with stupid green boxes popping up everywhere. I can't move the mouse without they popping all over the place, plus the big fat banner telling me to sign up, that won't go away no matter what I do.

    I know you think it's a 'really neat' toy. But it's annoying to us who want to actually view content. It makes the site look like it was created by a kid. Grow up.

    I will use another site for my research.

      I would like to turn the tags off permanently. When an ad comes up, my first thought is oh no, the tags are back.

      Very distracting and rarely is what is tagged what's interesting in the image.

      The problem has gotten worse. Now the tags show no matter how I'm viewing the photos in my ideabooks. If this isn't resolved, I'll have to stop creating ideabooks. And I may have no choice but to find another source for design ideas and finding and learning about local design professionals. I truly hope that someone at houzz.com is able to help me resolve this issue so that I don't have to do that.

      (Thanks, John, for posting. I knew I couldn't be the only one who found the tags distracting. They are all that I can focus on in the photos and I'm sure the design professionals whose work is featured would not be happy about that.)

      Hi all, and thanks for the important feedback!

      Image tags are important for many viewers, as they highlight the design choices made by professionals. That's why we include them on the photos by default. If, however, you find them distracting, all you need to do is press the little "tag" icon at the bottom of the photo to turn them off.

      Thank you for answering me. I was starting to think my question had gotten lost in the shuffle.

      I just checked and this trick does work (although it is a pain to have to do it for each photo). Unfortunately, it does turn the tags off permanently, which is not my preference because I do find the information useful. I just don't want to see them no matter how long I view a photo and then fluttering as I move from photo to photo in my ideabooks. It's a pity that my only option is to have the tags either "on" or "off" instead of having them fade out after a moment as they do in the "browse rooms" mode.

      I'm curious, why would the tags behave one way in my ideabooks and another in the "browse rooms" function? This is a recent change ... could it be an unintentional software glitch?

      John, since you also were curious about this, here's what I just learned.

      Scratch what I wrote about needing to turn off the tags for each photo. I had to do it for two photos at first but after that, I only needed to turn off tags for one photo in each ideabook to turn off all ID tags in that ideabook. However, it is only effective for that visit. The tags reappear when I return to the site, even if I'm still logged in, so I need to repeat the process of turning the tags off for each visit.

      For me the tags turn back on whenever an ad appears. If I could turn them off until I turn them on again, great. Instead, I find myself annoyed at the advertiser for turning the tags back on rather than thanking them for supporting the app.

      and a comment to taggers - tag the interesting part of the photo! I'll see an amazing piece of furniture, some exotic wood floor, unique stone work, and what's tagged? A little lamp or the color on the wall.

      It does seem to be only a temporary fix.

      I agree with you. In the face advertising like this creates a negative impression of a company or product for me. I understand they need to advertise and as I wrote above, I do find the information helpful at times, but annoying potential customers is not wise. That said, I'm wondering if what's going on here is due to Houzz's software (the tags' appearance is not consistent) and not the advertiser's fault. If so, then Houzz is doing a disservice to their advertisers.

      Thanks Lisa (hope I got your name right) and John for your comments, we appreciate this feedback.

      Lisa - I believe your issue with the tags has mostly been resolved by turning them off for the duration of reading the ideabook or browsing the photos. For your consideration, different users have different habits, and we strive to find the best solution that will fit most. Hiding tags when the mouse is off-the-screen was found to be confusing and inconsistent to many users, although I understand that it was useful for you. We are always looking into users behavior and feedback, and will take your opinion into consideration as we improve.

      John - I understand you're working on the iPad app, not the site. I see there's a bug there, and hope it will get fixed on the upcoming update. Thanks for reporting it, there was definitely no intention for advertiser's ads to throw off the functionality of the app.

      Hi Scotty, If you are signed in (like you had to be to post) you should not see the sign up banner anymore. Are you seeing that banner while logged into your account?

      I was not signed in. But I had to in order to post.
      I wouldn't sign up because I did not want to put up with exactly what I am now having to put up with... 4 (!!!! YES FOUR !!!!) junk emails within the first few hours. Then it continues with several each day AFTER (!! YES AFTER !!!) I unsubscribed.
      Fortunately, I was smart enough to use a 'burnable' email account. Because I knew this is what was going to happen.

      I understand there is a revenue model that needs to be met. But abusing your visitors is not the way to meet it.

      I am using your app on the iPhone. All of a sudden I now see green tags and search icons every time I swipe to a new photo. This is making it impossible to enjoy looking at images. I feel crosseyed with the tags fading in and out. Please help.

      I am using this site on my phone and find the green tags very annoying. I do not see a tag at the bottom of the photo to turn them off.

      With the most recent update I really can't use this iPhone app anymore. Now every time I swipe to a new photo the green tag and search icons fade in and out on each photo. Until this is fixed I will resort to internet searches for design ideas. I really like this service but it is unusable with this new always on feature. I knew how to access the tags in the old version, why change it?

      I don't have the tag icon at the bottom of the photos to turn off these annoying tags.
      Also the slide show feature doesn't work either. The app functions need attention! Not happy........

      I am still trying to use your app on the iPhone. White tags fade in every time I swipe to a new photo. Is there an on/off button I am missing?

      I am glad for the info but do not want to sacrifice the browsing experience for it. I don't have a chance to see and admire the photo and discover that I want the item info before the tag is thrown up to obscure the item. I know to search further into the image if I like an item or designer, the info needs to be available through a click...not in my face. I keep returning to your service in hopes that it is working better but the flashing tags keep sending me back to a Google image search or Pinterest. Please fix.
