Kristi I love your Taj Majal quartzite. Is that an eased straight edge?

I'm not sure if its an eased straight edge. The paperwork just said straight edge...

Eased

I'm not a fan of the pencil or the pointy ogee although my checkbook is.

My old kitchen had an eased edge and so will my new kitchen

I have the ogee edge. It did not cost anymore at the place I purchased the contertop from. I think with the particular design in my quartz, it gives the best look. The edge where the sink is cut is not as pretty - looks more like layers and loses the pearl effect.

Mine is eased edge on perimeter and ogee on my island. I have several chips on that sharp top edge of the ogee from banging it while setting something down on the island.

I'm not sure what 'eased' means. I have a small radius top and bottom on the maple portions, and a 1/4 bevel on the Formica sections. It actually comes that way; you do the main laminate, trim it, then glue on a separate piece with the bevel. It looks pretty good for laminate. I imagine it would chip easily with children slamming around, but it's fine for a couple of older folks.

demi bullnose. still love it. no chips. i think it really ""shows the granite and makes it look beefier... no square edges..

I had preformed laminate tops before this and I was really tired of the half bullnose on them but I didn't want a flat sharp edge.

I haven't had any complaints or problems with them.

I hope everyone continues to post. I'm moving and this is super helpful as we design the new kitchen.

Moved into this kitchen, but I believe it is an "eased edge." Lived with it 5 years and no complaints. I am considering this same edge for the new kitchen and maybe a thicker look countertop on the island (forget what they call it when they add a 2" drop to the edge).

I have an ogee edge and really like it, no problems with chipping. It's on a Tumbleweed colored Corian. It's a year old.

My counter is laminate and it's either an Eased edge or D-wrap. I believe the guy at home depot where I was checking out the edge samples called it that. It's a slightly rounded edge, top and bottom and the front edge is flat. My pictures aren't on my laptop anymore, so I can't link to them. It's basically like the 1/4 round in the photo beachem posted in the original post.

Both of my counters (bathroom, kitchen) have what two different fabricators call eased edges. The edges aren't knife sharp, but ever so slightly smoothed. Are those what some of you call pencil edges? Whatever. I love their simplicity and no chips.

MizLizzie, it's honed carrara in my guest bathroom. It's luscious, I stroke it daily, and I love it, etches and all.

When I picked out my slab, I was sort of disappointed that all the carrara slabs seemed covered in a roadmap of lines. But when it was installed and horizontal, everything looked soft and different, like the squiggles at upper right.

1/4 bevel here, which I love so far. It's especially comfortable for the edge of the raised bar, which was DH's requirement since that's his spot to hang out with his laptop.

My honed 4" Carrara countertop has as straight an edge as my fabricator would do, so it's a pencil edge very gently eased.

All of my corners (inside and outside) are as close to 90 degrees as they could make them.

My woodworker matched the edge of my black walnut island to the marble.

I like straight and simple lines. Bullnose and the drips would drive my batty. My counters are so easy to wipe off with this edge. I love them so much! No hip bumps, and no problem working for hours with my laptop at the island. I do have a couple small chips in my marble (a function of the marble) above the DW from a heavy pan on its way in. They're not noticeable and don't bother me.

Nice post beach... we were going to do bullnose, but they told us there is a "new bullnose" that makes the granite look thicker. I will see if I can get a picture of it emailed to me and post it, but we do not have ours installed yet :P

I think the installers were calling mine straight edge but it looks like pencil edge to me. (Sorry for mess in photo--real life this morning here post-breakfast!) Anyhow, within the context of the kitchen overall it looks more like straight than the picture detail shows it to actually be (if that makes sense). One thing I'd make sure to think about when you are thinking about edges is the sink cutout--the installers will say that this is dictated by the sink (partly true yes, but not completely determined by) choice; make sure the lines at the sink are harmonious with the countertop edge choice. Last kitchen I had straight edge but curved sink corners; okay, but not optimal imo.

I believe mine are eased.

I was leaning toward a 1/2 bullnose, but from the images beachem has posted, I rather like the 1/4 round (but only on top).

Could someone please elaborate on the difference between a straight edge and an eased edge? Since seeing this post I've visited tons of granite sites, and the they all seem to say something a bit different or show examples that seem to contradict what another site says.

yes, I agree with above posters, the different yards/fabricators tend to use different examples of eased/straight. Very confusing and frustrating! I bring pictures and interrogate. And then bug them some more. LOL
