I'm having trouble figuring out what I can afford. I went to a builder with a wish list and a general budget. I thought they would help me define a plan for a renovation and addition, but they just said "sorry, you can't do that in this budget" and didn't offer anything else. What's up with that? How do I drill down to a do-able project if a builder isn't willing to at least guestimate?
