9.4 X 9.4 Room--DECORATING ADVICE

Hi there!

I had recently posted a design dilemma and received GREAT advice from the Houzz community. Now that I have ordered a bed, I was hoping to get some decorating advice.

My room is small, 9.4 X 9.4. With a window on a side wall, and a sliding closet on the opposite side wall. I am going to include a picture of my bed, as well as the apartment stock photo of the bedroom. A Houzz member was kind enough to put up some layout drawings. If anyone can advise on the kind of decor I could go with to not make the space cluttered?

I am going to mount my tv to the wall also.

This arrangement (opposite the entry) will provide the most restful secure sleep. Smaller bedside tables will allow you to have two. They should arrive at mattress height, and when a lamp is added, the two pieces should measure a total of 58-64"above the floor. Here is a nice look that will help enlarge the room. Also match drapery color to the walls to visually enlarge the space. Consider a rug pulled 1/3 of the way under the bed. Here's an example - the mirrors will enlarge things too.

Not to keep saying IKEA in answer to everything lately, but IKEA specifically has the right scale for furniture for smaller spaces. I have just visited one in person for the first time with my mom who has small rooms in her new beach condo. It was perfectly scaled.

The thing you will have to make sure of at this point is also matching the scale of your new bed.

I'm not a design pro (we do garage doors) but my vote is for the last layout (bed on window).

I like layout 2 or 3 so you see the bed when you first walk in the room, have access to open or see out the window, and the tv will fit on the opposite wall. Keep all the colors light with minimal contrast.

love the bed! the bedding too, keep it simple. its best in small spaces not to have a footboard. layout 3 would be the better choice if you are putting a TV in the room. the wall inside the door is a perfect place for one but could just sit on a narrow dresser instead of mounted to the wall. but you do need 2 night tables, they don't have to match. move the bed closer to center, the stock photo just looks unbalanced. layout 1 is a definite NO! bad feng shui - you need to have a view of the door from bed. my moms spare bed was in that position and I never felt comfortable or safe until I moved it to the opposite wall. somehow the room felt larger too, not so confined.

thank you so much! The bed size is a full so with the dimensions i should have about 2 feet on each side of the bed. it is a large bed but only a temporary room size. Thank you for the advice!
