New cornices, blah room

Help! This is a game room with a bay window. My husband and I made the cornices but the fabric is so blah. What can I do to dress this room up? I am in Florida and I have decorated the house with Floridian design I all rooms. Most of my rooms have black tropical rugs or black cornices, which are very striking. Will appreciate all feedback!

Cornices and walls need to be different colors. Perhaps painting the room a light green (toward sage) taken from your rug would lighten the space and give that contrast at the same time.

Can we please have a photo of the room looking towards the dresser & a close up of the floor rug as well. Might help in making suggestions.

Here is the other view of the room. I thought about painting the one wall the red color that is in the curtain and the rug, but that might be a bit too dramatic? Any other suggestions would be highly welcomed! This group has been great for recommendations in the past.

I like the subtlety of the fabric but the room lacks freshness in a way. I would change the fabric on the chairs and add a woven sisal rug for a more updated and light feeling and think about accessorizing your console differently for a fun and casual look (2nd pic). I would paint the room white - see how light and airy the first room feels, although it has much of the same colors you have. You could even paint the chairs white and instead of resting pillows on the chairs, place them in a large wicker basket on the floor until needed - cute. An antique dough bowl would be a great centrepeice. Wouldn't suggest red..it will make it feel smaller and a touch old fashioned. You may want to pick and chose from these ideas if they appeal to you, thought they might help.

A quick fix could be to get a sage green or black trim and glue it onto your valances about 1" from edge. It would provide the distinction you need.

how about a lighter work of art? larger and less items on the sideboard. a lighter sideboard would be nice too.
