We just purchased a Craftsman style home. The majority of the downstairs is painted gold (a muted, goldenrod color). The family room was painted a robin's egg blue. While I like the blue, I don't like the blue/gold combo at all. I think it will be easier/cheaper to paint over the blue rather than the gold (because the blue is only in one room). I have no idea what color would compliment the gold. I want to stay true to the craftsman style while keeping things somewhat feminine. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks. What colors did you end up using? The problem I'm having is that I'm not a huge fan of the traditional craftsman colors. I'm keeping the gold because it's convenient and the blue is less expensive to change. Any ideas on what will go with gold? I have thought about doing brown or a lighter gold, but I'm not crazy about either idea.

Most higher paint lines have a craftsman color collection brochure. Check at a local paint only store or name brand(ex:Benjamin Moore) website.

I also have a Craftsman home. To get ideas, I went to the library and looked through books of Craftsman interiors for color inspiration. Good luck.

had other colors been available at the time, there might have been more variety in the colors used in craftsman homes.. and perhaps better quality too..
i would go with what you like. some traditions are meant to be in the past. :)

Craftsman color schemes had a tremendous vitality and variety. Blues, golds, reds, greens, etc. are all a part of the mix. So I wouldn't worry about being true to a craftsman scheme but rather find a color you'll enjoy for many years and works with the gold. A paint manufacturer I really like is Farrow and Ball. You can order sample pots from the and try out a few colors (or colours as they spell it). Farrow and Ball has been around a long time and their colors have a richness that's quite nice.

i agree it's a good idea to check the library for ideas. you can look online too, but i think books are more informative sometimes and give you a starting point.
you really need to decide what colors you like and what your furniture will be and the mood you want for your home. there are no Craftsman police :) right? :)
