I'm not a fan of vertical blinds. Have you seen panel blinds/curtains? I went to someone's house recently and she had them - got them from Ikea. They are really cool. I have been considering them for my own house, but haven't done it yet. Google Ikea Kvartal panel curtains.

ifulton - those are very nice! I've never seen those before.

tdeepat - the ones I saw were 2 different. On one track she had a sheer white with a light pattern (floral I think - it was all white) and the other track was sheer white. I think they (Ikea) have off white panels as well. Obviously many other choices out there, but Ikea is very inexpensive compared to custom made or even blinds.com.

Those sliding shutters are very nice. We had them in the beach condo we rented. Only disadvantage was when both doors were pulled to one side all the Louvers had to be closed so it blocked out half the light and view through sliding door

You couldn't go out through the glass doors onto porch.

Those sliding shutters will not work for me then. I want the light in my kitchen and the door is used a a LOT.

How about a cornice over the sliding door? It will "dress" the door without interfering with use.

I just put in those type of shutters and I'm not sure I would do it again. If you do an inside mount, the shutter is going to always cover part of the window. If you do an outside mount, you need a lot of room on both sides of the slider, plus they will protrude into the room. It doesn't look like you have enough room for an outside mount

Hunter Douglas makes a nice vertiglide blind that might work well in that space. When they are open, they only take up 6" of space. And they are easy to operate. The outside mount doesn't take up that much room. You can also get them motorized.

I really like the vertiglide blind...had never seen those before!

We have cats so we chose hunter Douglas horizontal cellular. Keeps heat and cold out when closed but we can leave up off the floor for cats, who would try to crawl under a vertical vertiglide.

Love the pumpkin wall color! It plays nicely with your warm toned cabinets and dining set.

What about a curtain rod with a grommet curtain pulled to one side (other than at night). But, what color rod and what color curtain?

IMO drapes are always the best choice for patio doors they can be out of the way when not needed and make sure they are full enough to still look full when closed

I have French doors and used lined curtains. The rod should be close to ceiling and out to the wall. Get two panels that will cover the area when closed. It's easier to open when there two slit in the middle. Just make sure that they go all the way onto the wall when open. As far gas color a small print or solid in the pumpkin wall color.

I was an installer so I have seen a lot of sliders IMO go with vertiglides.
