Consider a mirror or a mirror with storage for things like keys....

I think I would continue the chair rail and maybe add the boxed molding if there is enough room and call it a day. I'd also suggest painting inside the frames the same color as the wall, so it doesn't feel as busy, especially if you are continuing on the remaining wall.

I would continue the molding, remove it or paint over the existing molding so it blends with the wall.

You should definitely design a built-in wall unit that will add both storage and display space. Think family photos and home decor that great guests upon entry. Something like this would be perfect:

Or a more narrow version of this. Since you're dealing with a built-in, you won't have to worry about any obstructions in the way of people walking.

Or since the space is on the edge of the dining room, what about a home bar design?

No matter what you decide on, you should at least attempt to maximize that space beyond just hanging a painting, and give it some added functionality with shelves, cabinets, etc.

Hang a long vertical piece of show-stopping artwork.

Funny, I have pretty much the same wall in my entry way. I put up floating shelves with family pics.

What is hidden the another side of this wall?

If it is not a bathroom, what do you think to install a glass, possibly frosted, to add a look but also a clarity?

Possibly also if this piece is a bathroom...

Nasty design problem.

I agree with Maureen that extending the wall panels onto the 45 degree wall and extending the chair rail to the wall with the door opening seems to make visual sense, BUT is it desirable to read the angled wall as more a part of the room on the left in the photo or is it more of what I gather is the dining area on the right (with the chairs shown)? The chair rail looks odd just stopping before it gets to the 45 degree wall. (The chair rail also appears too small to my eye.)

While I don't think you should place anything on or against this wall, I believe that one of the reasons a few people have suggested placing something in or on that wall is to supply a visual transition between the chair rail and panel wall area and the wall area without them.

It seems to me that another awkward design problem here is with the position of the cut of the carpet relative to the angled wall corner. These are the kinds of details those of us who do design for a living always sweat out. Floor material transition points should reinforce the implied divisions between parts of spaces adjacent and open to one another.

I would finish the wainscoting all the way around to the arched wall and paint the inside color of the squares the same as the wall color and then if the studs are placed right you could have a wall niche cut out and put something pretty on display there or either hang a wall sconce with candles there.
