help with rooftop apt decoration

Hi, we just almost finished renovating a rooftop apt. We have an open space living area. The ceiling is wood. I am looking for ideas on how to decorate the space.

We bought off white leather sofas that are modern and was hoping to use shades of blue for accent. I bought this beautiful hand crafted carpet made of old jeans. The niche is for a tv, need a large coffee table wood and wrought iron? We plan to have a large book case on the wall just before the niche, maybe black metal and wood. What do you think?

The dining table is a modern ikea style oval oak table with a buffet.

The kitchen cabinets are oak with a mahogany bar and will be installed next week.

In the meantime, I don't know what type of lighting to install. There is a ceiling light in living area, one in dining area, over the kitchen bar area and over the sink/cabinets.

Looking for a Mediterranean look. Your ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

nice space and love the texture and feel. I think the modern with wood and iron are fine. Not feeling a mediterranean light fixture though. I'd think I'd want to stick with modern to fit the rest.

    May I rent it???

I don't think I'd use blue shades. I'd go with a neutral for shades. If privacy isn't an issue, I'd get white solar shades.

Agree with Annie re: a Mediterranean light fixture. Not seeing it in there. I'd stick with that. Hard to make suggestions w/o seeing the finished areas.

I don't think they mean the literal blue shades on the windows but different shades of blues as accents. I think that would be wonderful with the wood and the white couches and could work for a Mediterranean look, altho those colors and the tones of the wood with a modern decor lean more Scandinavian to me.

Thank you for your comments. This apt is a 5 min walk from the Mediterranean Sea, thus explaining my wish to add some Med blue/beach feel. The carpet is actually on hold, so I can change my mind. As for window coverings, I wasn't planning on adding them to patio doors as it is very private. I might add some wooden blinds above the buffet as that is facing south. This will be our living area including the terrace so I am hoping for something that is inviting and cosy. Spoke with an artisan this am to get a quote on shelves. I was thinking along the picture below but with different size niches not as linear.. but then I just can't see what lighting would work with it without looking medieval or country... I can get the metal shelf structure painted any colour.

As for the lighting, I feel like going for something completely off the wall like these models... I am off track?

Thanks Annie Deighnaugh what do you suggest for lighting?

Hi lazy_gardens I like your suggestion and we were thinking the same way for plants. The windows face north and there is a wall radiator going between the 2 front patio doors. Do you have a plant in mind? We are going to also add some on the terrace a little later.

What would you put on the ledge above the patio doors? I was thinking a collection of old pottery or blown glass???

I'd get the rooms pulled together and furnished, then think about what to display there, but either of your ideas would look good. Maybe some kind of lighting up there, like rope lighting? Can you show us your jeans rug?

What a great space!!! Please share pics when it's fully furnished and completed!

Annie Deighnaugh wow,, lots of choice...Do you think all lighting fixtures should be from the same collection or can I change models? As you can tell, I am really stuck... For the jean rug, it is 2m x 3m in size however I don't have a picture.

What do you think of this model? We have artisans that can make something similar... Should I use same colours or have them done in chrome colour like the sofa legs?

I like that light fixture and think it would work well.

Metals need not match in a room, but if you are going to use a color (each metal can be considered a color) it's best to use it at least 3 times in the room so it repeats and feels more cohesive. So don't go for the chrome unless you're planning on using it several more times.

That's beautiful! I think with the warm wood color of your ceiling, I would chose a finish like the one you pictured and not chrome.

    I LOVE this apartment!

I'm curious if you're planning to use the niche for art or media or something else? Just to get a picture of what you're envisioning for that wall with the shelving.

Annie Deighnaugh thanks to tell the truth, I really like the fixture as is. however if their color is too contrasting with the rest, I was thinking of having them toned down to a sand, beige or white.?? They are installing the kitchen tomorrow and hopefully the counter tops next week- we chose black marble. I will keep you updated and thanks for the feedback

elizabetheva Thanks. Yes the niche will be a media center though it is a little high. We have a 50" tv and I was thinking of having some nice shelves on either side for Cds and DVDs. That part of the wall was outside before, it had a built-in bench. We were unable to break the back of the bench so when we renovated, we had to straighten the wall and decided to create a niche above the bench. To the right of the niche, we want to build a metal and wood shelves. Hopefully with a few doors as the open plan doesn't leave leave us with a lot of storage. Oh and for the fun of it, here are a few before pictures. I think Olychick and cat_mom might like to see them. Yes it was quite the reno project and we almost doubled the size of the kitchen/living area. I will come back with pics of new kitchen this week end. Once installed, we might see better what to do. I am hoping our cabinet maker will be able to revamp an old buffet for the dining space.

Wow, what a change! Love your new look. It seems uncluttered, serene and very natural. Love the shelves and the latest fixture that you posted.
